Tanworth & Camp Hill v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 30 Jul 2011 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 3 Wickets

Match report Tanworth & Camp Hill 176 for 7
Wellesbourne 180 for 7

A composed and mature 73 not out from 17-year-old Tommy Wheeler
maintained Wellesbourne’s narrow lead at the top of the Premier
Division with a three-wicket victory over Tanworth & Camp Hill.
Tanworth won the toss and openers M Weir and S Reeve made a steady
start against some tight bowling until Tom Stephenson made the
breakthrough bowling Weir for 10 with the score on 36. Fred Howard
joined Reeve and these two continued to bat carefully and after 20
overs they had reached only 55. The partnership was broken on 101 when
Howard was run out following good teamwork from Phil Rothwell and
Jamie Maynard and Reeve’s patient innings of 54 ended when Gary
Maynard caught him off Tom Stephenson leaving Tanworth 126 for three.
The home side tried to hurry the scoring along at this point but
wickets fell with first Dave Terrace being caught and bowled by Jamie
Maynard for eight, M Rushton bowled by Tom Stephenson for five and P
Townsend being caught by Tom Shearsby off Jamie Maynard for 25 leaving
the hosts on 147 for six. Matt Stephenson then bowled J Carey for
eight and Tanworth closed on 176-7 off their 45 overs with Tom
Stephenson 3-31, Jamie Maynard 2-26 and Matt Stephenson 1-35 taking
the wickets. In reply Bourne’s openers Gary Maynard and Wheeler made a
brisk start until T Twort trapped Maynard lbw for 21 and Tariq
Mohammed had Jamie Maynard lbw and bowled Adam Kerrigan and the
visitors were in trouble at 40 for three. Shearsby then joined Wheeler
at the crease and these two went for their shots and had put on a
useful 55 stand until Shearsby was caught behind by Barber off Rushton
for 26. Nathan Edwards, another only 17 years old, continued to rally
the innings and with Wheeler in fine form the two youngsters took
Bourne to 151 when Patel bowled Edwards for 32. The innings began to
wobble at this point as Carey had Rothwell caught by Reeve and Chris
Evans caught by Barber leaving Bourne 169 for seven. However Wheeler
was joined by Conor Green and these two saw them home with Mohammed
2-19 off 10 overs, Carey 2-41, Twort 1-36 and Rushton 1-36 being the
wicket takers.
