Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI v Exhall & Wixford on Sat 09 Jul 2011 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won by 31 runs

Match report seven wickets in an amazing six overs propelled Wellesbourne to
an exciting and unlikely 31-run win over Exhall & Wixford.
Following on from last week’s thriller at Exhall this game proved
another tense encounter. Exhall skipper Charlie Mulraine won the
toss and invited Bourne to bat first and once again they got off
to a good start with Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler playing well
until Maynard was controversially given out caught by Steve Kerby
off Jon Simpson for 25 with the score on 48. Simpson then bowled
Jamie Maynard for seven and Wheeler went the same way to BJ
Weston leaving the hosts on 78 for three off 22 overs. Adam
Kerrigan and last week’s hero Dave Barnett rebuilt the innings
with a good partnership of 86 until Kerrigan, who played very
well, was bowled by Tom Simpson for 59 and Kerby bowled Barnett
for 31 with the score on 178 for five. Tom Shearsby was next to
go for 10 when he skied a catch to Tom Simpson off Kerby and
Weston bowled Phil Rothwell leaving Bourne 190 for seven. However
Jon Spence (13) and Chris Evans (12) gained the fifth batting
point until Spence was run out and Evans caught and bowled by
Kerby and they finished on 217 for nine. Kerby 3-44, Jon Simpson
2-47, Weston 2-47 and Tom Simpson 1-16 being the wicket takers.
Exhall began their reply in confident fashion with Matt Gwynne
and Mulraine looking very solid and they reached 86 after 20
overs until Kerrigan came into the attack and, after having
Gwynne dropped with his second ball, he clean bowled him with his
third for 43. Jamie Maynard then had Mulraine caught by Chris
Evans for 41 and Matt Stephenson bowled Dave Mullett for 17
leaving Exhall 120 for three. Steve Kerby and Scott Carmichael
rallied the innings and they seemed set to gain revenge when they
took the score to 165 in the 35th over requiring 53 runs from the
final 10 overs with seven wickets in hand. However Bourne never
gave in and the game turned on its head with the introduction of
Shearsby and wickets began to tumble when he had Carmichael
caught by Barnett for 11 and trapped Kerby lbw for 29. Suddenly
Exhall began to wobble and Tom Stephenson had Jon Simpson caught
in the deep by Shearsby and Shearsby bowled Tom Simpson and
Exhall were 177 for seven. Bourne now could sense victory and
Andy Bird was caught and bowled by Tom Stephenson before Evans
returned to finish the innings off with two wickets in two balls
as first Weston was caught by Jamie Maynard and Chris Pearson was
bowled and Exhall were all out for 186 at the end of the 41st
over. Shearsby 3-14, Evans 2-24, Tom Stephenson 2-36, Kerrigan
1-11, Matt Stephenson 1-27 and Jamie Maynard 1-36 taking the
