Match report A hugely entertaining game between two well-matched sides resulted in
an excellent five-wicket victory for Wellesbourne meaning they have
taken over top spot in the Premier League from Exhall. Winning the
toss Exhall made their customary good start with Matt Gwynne and Dave
Mullett putting on 91 for the first wicket before an excellent
stumping from Dave Barnett off Tom Shearsby ended Mullett’s innings
for 30. Charlie Mulraine joined Gwynne and these two continued the
good work with some fine batting with Gwynne, having survived a sharp
chance early in his innings, moving on to a fine century. However
Gwynne was then bowled for 101 by Tom Stephenson with the score on 177
and Exhall lost two more wickets when Gary Maynard bowled Steve Kerby
and Mulraine was trapped lbw for 61 by Maynard leaving Exhall 209 for
four. Scott Carmichael (11) was next to go when Chris Evans had him
caught by Barentt and Martin Park (12) was superbly caught by Nathan
Edwards off Evans with the total on 245. Jon Simpson with 15 not out
saw Exhall to a very respectable 255 for six off their 45 overs with
Evans 2-44, Maynard 2-53, Shearsby 1-45 and Stephenson 1-73 being the
wicket takers. Faced with a target of 256 Bourne’s openers Gary
Maynard and Tommy Wheeler set about the task in determined fashion
with 58 off the first 10 overs and took their opening partnership to
73 until Wheeler was caught by Mullett off B J Weston for 26. Weston
then removed Maynard lbw for 48 and took his third wicket clean
bowling Adam Kerrigan leaving Bourne on 96 for three. Jamie Maynard
and Dave Barnett then consolidated the innings with some sensible
batting and took the score to 161 before Kerby bowled Maynard for 37.
Barnett continued in fine form and with Shearsby in partnership these
two played extremely well taking Bourne in sight of victory until Park
had Shearsby caught by Kerby for 25 with the score on 229. Barnett was
then joined by Edwards and with the latter showing no nerves guided
Bourne home to a memorable victory completeing a fine team
performance. Barnett finishing with a superb 77 not out and Edwards 19
not out. Weston 3-58, Kerby 1-51 and Park 1-34 grabbing Exhall’s
