Elmley Castle v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 25 Jun 2011 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets

Match report Elmley Castle 135 all out
Wellesbourne 136 for two

Wellesbourne completed a comfortable eight-wicket win at Elmley Castle due mainly to a fine performance in the field from the whole side. Winning the toss skipper Tom Stephenson had no hesitation in asking Elmley to bat first and this paid immediate dividends when Gary Maynard clean bowled Simon Corbett and then trapped Gareth Howman lbw leaving the hosts on 12 for two. Simon and Neil Cooper then rallied the innings with some careful batting until Adam Kerrigan held a fine slip catch off Chris Evans to remove the former for eight with the total on 59. Mike Brown continued to help stabilise the innings with Neil Cooper until Bourne struck twice more when first Brown was caught by Matt Stephenson off Tom Shearsby’s bowling and then Cooper was superbly caught by Jamie Maynard off Matt Stephenson for a fine 56 leaving Elmley 94 for five. With Bourne in the ascendancy Elmley battled hard to stay in the game and were finding runs hard to get and eventually Ashley Hemming succumbed when he was caught on the boundary by Jamie Maynard off Tom Stephenson and Jamie Bailey was run out by Tommy Wheeler with the score on 107 for seven. Will Bailey and T Graham secured another batting point for the home side before an excellent direct throw from Shearsby ended Bailey’s innings and Graham was well caught in the outfield by Phil Rothwell off Tom Stephenson for 18 before G Swainson was stumped by Dave Barnett off Stephenson to end the home side’s innings on 135 off 42.4 overs. Tom Stephenson 3-14, Gary Maynard 2-41, Shearsby 1-9, Evans 1-26 and Matt Stephenson 1-35 being the wicket takers for Bourne. With the pitch showing a good deal of uneven bounce the target was far from certain but Gary Maynard and Tommy Wheeler made a decent start until Maynard played on for 10 off Neil Cooper with the score on 29. Jamie Maynard joined Wheeler and although both never looked completely comfortable they were helped by some indifferent bowling from the home attack and took the score to 95 before Maynard was bowled by Corbett for 31. Adam Kerrigan came in and with Wheeler growing in confidence these two saw Bourne home. Wheeler finished on a fine 46 not out and Kerrigan 25. Cooper 1-15 and Corbett 1-22 taking the two wickets to fall.
