Broadway v Wellesbourne Cricket Club CHL Saturday 1st XI on Sat 11 Jun 2011 at 13:30
Wellesbourne Cricket Club Won

Match report Wellesbourne 326 for four
Broadway 197 all out

Wellesbourne won by 57 runs (rain affected)

A majestic unbeaten 208 from Gary Maynard proved the backbone for
Wellesbourne’s victory over a gallant Broadway. His innings, which
included seven sixes and 22 fours, was also a record score in the
league for ’Bourne, and it paved the way for a formidable total of 326
for four which, although Broadway fought to the end, proved too much
for the home side. After being put in to bat Maynard and Patrick
Prasad got ’Bourne off to a good start reaching 70 off 10.5 overs
before rain took the players off. On resumption they continued to play
freely until Prasad was well caught by Nigel Evans off Marcus Humpston
for 25 with the total on 111. Jamie Maynard then joined his brother
and they took the score to 146 before Jamie was caught by Matt
Phillips off Andy Beale for seven bringing Adam Kerrigan to the crease
and he continued the good work with a partnership of 112 as Maynard
completed his century off 74 balls with a six and moved past 150 off
110 balls. With ’Bourne scoring runs at every opportunity Kerrigan
then perished in the deep when Humpston caught him off Jamie Powell
for 39. Dave Barnett was soon into his stride and Maynard brought up
his double hundred off 136 balls with another six, before Powell
removed Barnett caught by Gary Hawkins for 18 with 310 on the board.
Mike Plant chipped in with 11 not out with Powell 2-69, Humpston 1-60
and Beale 1-69 being the pick of the bowlers. With a revised target of
254 off 35 overs Broadway made a flying start taking 30 off the first
two overs until Chris Evans had Nigel Evans caught by Tom Havers and
then Gary Evans was unluckily given run out for 30 from a direct throw
from Plant leaving them 45 for two. Broadway continued to go for their
shots until Chris Evans bowled Mark Evans for 16 and had Hawkins
caught by Kerrigan for 12. Humpston was then superbly caught by Jamie
Maynard off Matt Stephenson with the score on 89 for five and thoughts
that the home side had given up the chase were far from the mark as
Beale and Powell added 30 quick runs until Barnett caught Powell off
Stephenson for 19. James Hands soon followed as Barnett stumped him
off Tom Stephenson leaving them 126 for seven but still Broadway
continued the run chase with Matt Phillips joining Beale in taking the
score to 163 before Kerrigan had Beale caught by Barnett for 23 and
Phillips was then bowled by Tom Stephenson after striking a
belligerent 41. Jason Horsburgh was the last man to fall when Chris
Evans took the catch off Kerrigan and Broadway’s innings ended on 197
all out. Chris Evans 3-35, Tom Stephenson 2-43, Matt Stephenson 2-57
and Kerrigan 2-24 being the wicket takers.
